After receiving his degree in music theory and composition from the University of Miami, Bobby completed his jazz education in the late '70s as a member of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers where he served as music director for 2 years in a group that included Wynton Marsalis, James Williams, Billy Pierce and Charles Fambrough.
