MANNY ALBAM (b. 1922) A pre-eminent composer/arranger, Manny Albam began his career playing baritone sax in the bands of Mugsy Spanier, Georgie Auld, Charlie Barnet and others. Since the early 1950s, he has focused on composing and arranging, starting with charts for Woody Herman's Herd, and later for Stan Kenton, Count Basie, Buddy Rich and for many other small and large ensembles and vocalists. He has long been a prominent Jazz educator.
